English
In English this term, we will be reading The King Who Banned the Dark. This imaginative and thought-provoking story will inspire a range of exciting writing opportunities across the term.
Throughout this term, the children will explore the text in depth through balanced arguments, poetry and newspaper articles. They will consider different viewpoints, debate key themes from the story and write thoughtfully about the impact of the King’s decisions. These activities will encourage them to think critically, develop empathy for characters and justify their opinions clearly.
Alongside this, we will continue to build our vocabulary, refine sentence structures and strengthen comprehension skills. As always, our focus will be on helping children grow in confidence and creativity, expressing their ideas clearly and effectively in a range of written forms.
Guided Reading
In Guided Reading this term, we will be reading the beloved classic Charlotte's Web by E.B. White. This heartwarming tale of friendship and loyalty will provide a wonderful foundation for our reading sessions. Through group discussions, the children will dive into the story by making predictions, summarizing chapters, and inferring characters' feelings. Alongside exploring these themes, we will continue to build reading fluency, expand vocabulary, and strengthen overall comprehension skills to help the children grow into confident, passionate readers.
It is essential that your child also reads for at least 10 minutes everyday. Your child has a reading record and a book that they take home. Please help your child with reading and filling our their reading record. We encourage children to read a wide range of books. Children are also given a book on the online library: Bug Club. Children can read a book online and improve their progress. Great readers make great learners. .
Maths
In Maths this term, we are starting Book 3B of the Maths No Problem! programme. We will be building on our mathematical skills by exploring topics such as fractions, time, angles, shapes, and perimeter. Using the programme's mastery approach, the children will use hands-on resources and visual representations to deepen their understanding before moving on to abstract calculations. As always, our focus will be on developing confident mathematicians who can problem-solve, reason clearly, and explain their thinking to others.
Computing
In computing children will be looking at the importance of online safety and how to stay safe online. They will also be learning how to use Google Docs effectively.
Science
In Science this term, we will be diving into the fascinating world of plants. The children will learn to identify the different parts of flowering plants and discover exactly what they need to grow and stay healthy.
Through investigations, including growing our own plants, we will explore the plant life cycle and observe how water and nutrients work their magic. As always, our focus will be on encouraging the children to ask scientific questions, record their observations carefully, and develop a deeper appreciation for the natural world around them.
Geography
In Geography this term, we will be stepping outside the classroom to conduct fieldwork right here in our local town. The children will become geographers as they explore and observe the human and physical features of our surrounding area.
They will practice essential skills such as drawing sketch maps, conducting simple surveys, and collecting data about the local environment. These practical experiences will encourage them to look closer at their everyday surroundings and think critically about how our town is structured and used.
Our focus will be on helping the children develop a deeper understanding of the world around them while building confidence in their geographical enquiry skills.
PE/Swimming
Swimming will be on Thursday's . Please ensure that your child has the correct swimming kit.
Art/DT
In Computing this term, we will be exploring how to use digital media to create and edit images. The children will learn how to use different software tools to design, draw, and manipulate their own digital artwork.
Through hands-on activities, they will experiment with cropping, resizing, and altering photos, as well as using digital brushes and layers to build unique compositions. These practical experiences will encourage them to think critically about how images are created and edited in the real world, while blending their artistic ideas with new technical skills.
Our focus will be on encouraging creativity, building confidence with technology, and helping the children express their ideas in exciting new ways.
